Overview

The Republic of Panama is an independent, sovereign state in Central America with a population of 4.2 million people. Its capital is Panama City. With a population of about 4 million, Spanish is the official language and the United States Dollar is the currency of legal tender.

Panama is a constitutional democracy and a presidential representative republic with a multi-party system. The National Assembly is main legislative body of Panama and the judiciary is
independent.

Panama is a renowned international financial centre that focuses on banking and commercial services. The Panamanian government actively promotes offshore financial activities, in favour of foreign investments. While some offshore jurisdictions may offer select advantages, in Panama these are to be found together- stability, flexibility, confidentiality, security and tax waivers.
Panama’s services-based economy benefits from Panama Canal and the Colon free trade zone, the second largest in the world and home to some 2,000 companies.  A free trade agreement with the United States was reached in the late 2006.
